Frequently Asked Questions
Popular Questions
-
Why Corestar for Running PT?
We are fully certified in everything running; running form, coaching, injuries, biomechanics, proper shoe wear, orthotics, and we are runners. Runners like to be treated by runners, as we are different and our goals need to be understood.
-
Why should I try Pilates?
Pilates is a safe whole body exercise. It can be modified for any activity level or injury. Pilates will help discover faulty movement patterns and weaknesses that can then be retrained and growth will occur.
-
Why should I go to Corestar Pilates and Physical Therapy rather than a gym or pilates studio?
All classes and sessions are performed by Nationally Certified Pilates Instructors that are Physical Therapists which will ensure safe exercises and progressions. All classes are small or one on one which provide individualized instruction and observation of form. Physical therapists specialize in biomechanics, have a very trained eye on form, can respond quickly, and make modifications. How do you teach something if you haven't performed it? We have a full in depth understanding of each exercise and how to perform it correctly in order to be certified. Often therapists teach exercises they have never felt or fully understood the purpose.
PT Questions
-
Can any PT do a bike evaluation?
The answer is not really. It is a specialized certification and training. Did you know there are only 2 certified Bike PT’s in Indiana? I was the first one. I started training in 2016.
-
What is the difference between bike fitting at a cycle shop and Bike PT?
A certified Bike Physical Therapist assesses what we call body mechanics. How your body moves and responds to the bike. We can assess the body, bike, and the relationship of the two. Then we can fine tune the bike to fit your body and make adjustments for an injury or rehabbing from an injury.
-
If a PT clinic has pilates equipment does that mean they are certified or trained in Pilates?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. It takes a lot of specialized training and testing to be truly certified as a PIlates Practitioner. Many clinics have equipment, but that doesn't mean that staff is certified. It is important to ask if a staff member is certified on the equipment.
-
Do you accept beginners in your Pilates studio?
At Corestar, we accept clients at all skill levels. Pilates is for everyone and we can adjust routines for your level. You will be working with a certified instructor that will be able to assess your needs.
Clothing and Instructions
-
Will I be given instructions on what to do at home?
Yes. You will be very much active in your rehabilitation program and that includes exercises to do at home. You will be given a detailed handout with pictures to remind you of the correct form and exercise.
-
What should I wear to a Pilates Class or Physical Therapy?
Athletic wear that is comfortable and breathable. Please refrain from wearing clothing that has zippers, buttons, snaps, or embellishments as it can damage the equipment upholstery. If being seen for Physical therapy, bring shorts if we are assessing your knee and/or short sleeve shirt if evaluating a shoulder.
-
Where do you get your Butt Bow Running skirts?
I added this because so many people ask: www.dottieforrunning.com. Her skirts are amazing!
-
Why do you wear a running skirt?
I typically only wear them for a race in which I am running in character. Disney races are some of my favorite races and it is almost expected to be in costume. I have been as elaborate as Buzz Lightyear with wings, Cinderella, Cruella, Princess Leia, Snow White, Princess Anna, and Moana. Running is supposed to be fun.
Insurance, Doctors, and Legal
-
Why do you not accept insurance?
At Corestar, we want the patient to be the primary focus. A managed care model (in-network providers), the therapist often sees multiple patients at a time and only sees you for a small portion of your scheduled time while you perform activities independently with a non licensed aid. This is not the treatment I want to provide or want to experience as a patient. At Corestar your physical therapy appointments are private one on one sessions for the time needed. Our treatments are not driven by the insurance companies' agendas but your needs.
-
Can I use my FSA/HSA at the time of my appointment?
Yes. We accept FSA and HSA as payment methods.
-
Will you be able to give me a receipt for my insurance?
Yes. We can give you a Superbill that you can present to your insurance company for reimbursement.
-
Do I have to be an athlete, runner, or cyclist to be treated at your facility?
At Corestar we welcome a variety of injuries. We treat individuals at all levels.
-
Do I need a Physician’s referral?
No. In Indiana you can be seen by a physical therapist for 42 days before requiring a physician’s referral.
-
Will I be treated by the same Physical therapist?
Yes. You will be treated by the same therapist that evaluated you.
