Custom Orthotics

At Corestar, we specialize in orthotics. If you continue to have pain with walking, standing, and running; custom orthotics may be beneficial to reduce or eliminate foot or lower leg pain. We will make a plaster cast of your foot and a custom orthotic will be made specifically for your foot. It is a thorough evaluation that examines your foot in weight bearing and non weight bearing positions. It can take up to three weeks for your custom orthotics to arrive.

Dry Needling

We use Functional Dry Needling® (FDN) at Corestar as a technique to address muscular pain and tension. It involves inserting a tiny monofilament needle to “stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissue for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.” (APTA). In my personal experience it has helped release deep muscles that massage, scraping, or cupping is unable to accomplish alone. It is a great compliment to the above techniques and at times can speed up recovery. There are risks, one being bruising, but will be discussed by your therapist to see if you are a good candidate. Functional Dry Needling® has been used to help release or stimulate a muscle. A great example, in runners I will use FDN to release the Tensor Fascia Latae and stimulate the Gluteus Medius. Ever have a calf seize up on a run or bike ride? This will help. The treatment sounds scarier than it is and can be very beneficial. Your therapist will be there every step of the way.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Waking up dizzy or to a room spinning is no fun. If you ever have vertigo, it can be scary and miserable. At Corestar we will perform a full assessment that will determine the source of the cause of dizziness. The evaluation will consist of a series of tests in which your head will be moved in different positions and eye movements will be assessed. The inner ear has three semicircular canals and we can determine which ear, canal, and where in the canal the problem is located. The “crystals” of the inner ear can at times end up in the canals and give the brain the wrong signals that the head is spinning and creating the symptoms of vertigo. This vertigo is known as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). It can be corrected by a vertigo maneuver known as canalith repositioning. The treatment is noninvasive and more like a positional movement based exercise. You may feel dizzy during the assessment and feel uneasy after the session, but symptoms should improve in a few days.

Kinesio Taping

I have been sponsored by Kinesio tape for several years to tape runners at Fort for Fitness. It has many different properties that are beneficial. It can be used for mechanical correction, muscle stimulation, muscle inhibition, and edema control. It is known to help the transition back into your favorite activities such as running, cycling, golfing, and gymnastics to name a few. A good example, I used it to support my medial knee during running after I acquired a bone bruise from a very windy half-marathon or to take a little pressure off my achilles tendon. If you have a sporting event, I do provide Kinesio taping prior to events. We are here to help you get back on course whatever your desired goal.

Treatments

All Treatments are individualized based on the patient’s needs. Our treatments consist of manual (cupping, soft and deep tissue mobilization, myofascial release, IASTM/scraping, joint mobilization), therapeutic exercise, functional exercise, and neuromuscular exercise. We will provide you with a printed Home Exercise Program (HEP) that will focus on elements needed for healing and progress. Being a cash paid entity, the session will focus on your needs and desired outcomes, not limited based on your insurance.
